World Habitat Day 2014

World Habitat Day 2014

6 October 2014. Worldwide

+INFO:  www.un.org

The United Nations designated the first Monday in October every year as World Habitat Day "to reflect on the state of human settlements and the basic right to adequate shelter for all". The Day is also intended "to remind the world of its collective responsibility for the future of the human habitat".

The theme for 2013 was Urban Mobility, "because mobility and access to goods and services is essential to the efficient functioning of our cities and towns as they expand". For further information, and to find out the theme for 2014, visit the World Habitat Day website, or try the UN Habitat website at www.unhabitat.org  and choose World Habitat Day from the Events section. There is also a website, I'm a City Changer, which includes stories of people who have worked to change their city for the better.

To find teaching resources to help you mark World Habitat Day in your school, browse through the ones listed under the topic Homes and Homelessness.
