Consultations open for the UCLG Public Space Policy Framework

In 2015, the Committee on Urban Strategic Planning began the development of a public space policy framework by and for local and regional governments. The scope of the work included the development of the role of local governments in public space, the definition of a public space policy framework and an appeal to different audiences on the importance of establishing enabling policies dealing with public spaces at the local level.

The document is made up of 10 important points linked to relevant examples such as governance, the right to the city, urban economics, and culture and identity, among others. Members and Partners of UCLG are invited to submit their comments on the draft framework before 30 June 2016 in order to presented at PrepCom 3, Surabaya (July), UCLG World Congress in Bogotá (October), and the Habitat III Conference, Quito (October).

CONSULTATION

Issues that can guide the review and your feedback:

  1. Does the policy framework provide a clear understanding of the role of local governments on public space?
  2. We want the document to be internationally applicable and sufficiently open to fit different cities’ realities. In this regard, do you think the document is relevant?
  3. In your opinion, are there any important elements missing?
  4. Describe any public space initiatives being spearheaded by your local government that you feel are particularly innovative and that other communities would benefit from knowing about, to include as an example.
